For the lovers of take a walk in the forest
The Eversambos (39 ha) is located near the Iron and the historic abbey farm Eversam off. The forest was planted in 1994-1995 on former agricultural land and is crossed by several paths. We find there zomereik, ordinary ash, lime winter and many more species. The plant still refers mainly to the former agricultural use. In and along the rivers you will find several rare plants.
Gallows Forests in Ypres
The gallows Forests (107 ha), located on the border of Elverdinge, Vlamertinge and Poperinge is a kind of rich deciduous forest with many pools, rich in amphibians. The gallows Forests footpath leads the walker through the field. Here is the first blotevoetenpad Flanders opened. This stimulates path over a distance of about 150 meters to the feet touch the earth and nature will be rediscovered.
Hellegatbos in Heuvelland
This is the forest that the summit, the northern and western flanks of the Rodeberg covered. The name refers to a deep ravine at the bottom of the hillside. The current domeinbos covers 15 ha, close to the Kotje Piepersbos’ that municipal area also is open to the public. Part of the Hellegatbos as’ play ‘style. The two mountain footpath leads the walker through the field.
Helleketelbos in Poperinge
The forest is situated west of Poperinge, near the Franco-Belgian border. The area consists of two bosentiteiten by a narrow strip of land separated. The north west side of the field is situated on a ridge with a beautiful view of the characteristic hop fields. The Helleketelbos since 1972 is open to recreational. Houthulstbos in Houthulst
This is the largest contiguous forest area (about 350 ha) within the region Diksmuide, Ieper. However, a small remnant of the 6000 hectare “Forest Without Mercy”, which once extended between Ypres, Roeselare, Torhout and Diksmuide. The forest was mainly history as a refuge from the historical Gang of Bake Landtheer. It was like walking domeinbos open to the public. Koekelarebos in Koekelare
In 1914 this forest had an area of 342 ha. Two world wars later left for another 67 hectares, mostly deciduous and coniferous plots and also a piece of heather. Polygoonbos or Doelbos in Zonnebeke
