WELCOME TO DIKSMUIDE
Diksmuide lies on the banks of the Yser River, in the middle of the Flemish Westhoek (West Corner).
It’s history is with a textile industry and dairy production that once made Diksmuide very wealthy. Discover picturesque corners while walking the through the city (Stadslink) – through the old town with it’s typical cobbled Flemish market square.
There are numerous monuments, cemeteries and trenches to remind us of the horror of the First World War (1914-1918).
The endless panoramas invite you to walk, ride or even take a boat trip on the IJser. You will pass through enchanting villages whilst experiencing the openness of the region and admire local, protected nature reserves. Everyone certainly enjoys our regional gastronomy with it’s cosy atmosphere, especially during one of our many special events. In the evening, you can spend the night in the centre or journey further into the coutryside…
Diksmuide is only 15 km away from the coast, perfect for a short trip, whilst Ypres (Ieper) is about 20 km.
Museum of the Flour Mills
Before the First World War Diksmuide’s flour factory stood alongside the river Yser. These impressive buildings from 1930 still hold the old machines, even though the production was transferred to a new location in 1996. The premises became a residential area and the renovated flour mills a place worth seeing.
